Here's an overview of the new EFM curriculum, together with the material that we'll need to guide us through the year..

The four years of scholarship.

They've dropped the Sewanee-produced scholarly materials about which I hubristically complained so much, in favor of four books already published. One for each year, obviously. In effect they've outsourced the scholarship, which was expensive to produce at Sewanee, and not easy to keep edited. If a book doesn't answer, they can simply change it for the following year. There are also two books known as "Common Texts", which all four years discuss at prescribed times during the year. You get the books for your year at no extra charge when you register, though not, I understand, e-book versions.

Here's a list of the books and their authors.

The materials for theological reflection.

The Common Lessons and Supporting Materials (one huge binder which I'm afraid we didn't use very much) has been retired in favor of four books which are to be used over a four-year cycle. All four years of EFM paticipants use the same book. Think of the familiar four-year lectionary cycle...

These new books (and they are books, by the way, not binders) are known as Reading and Reflection Guides (RRGs). They are being produced at Sewanee, and so far only the first one exists.

The EFM program has released the first seven weeks' worth of the Year A RRG as a PDF. Just like sample chapters on Amazon. Here.

There seems to be an increased emphasis on the Theological Reflection side of the program. I suspect that, out of a mistaken deference to your mentor, you went along with my neglect of that side of things, more than you might really have wanted. Forgive me, I'm English, from a nation of compulsive non-joiners, and of a generation that carried the tendency to extremes. So bonding isn't high on my list of things to do. However, since y'all seem to want it, I'll make the effort.

And here's a suggested schedule.
