Notes for 11/19/13
George Orwell's essay "Politics and the English Language." I'm not saying there's anything wrong with the language or the thought that comes out of Sewanee. However the Blessed George's essay is a classic account of the difference between good and bad English, and why it matters. The November 14 issue of the News & Record carried a letter with the title "Everything banned by Bible isn't quoted." The writer's point is that even though Jesus never mentioned homosexuality in the Gospels, he's still against it because it's mentioned negatively elsewhere in the Bible, and:
- The Bible is the word of God.
- Jesus is God.
- Therefore everything in the Bible is the word of Jesus.
